Caribbean Region: The dates have been confirmed for the Caribbean Premier League- CPL. CPL would commence from 28 August 2021 and would proceed till 19 September.

This year the CPL is being hosted by St Kitts and Nevis island. All the thirty-three matches would be played at Warner Park. The previous year CPL recorded an audience of around 523 million, with a 67% increase from the 2019 year.

Hero CPL’s COO, Pete Russell, expressed his excitement and asserted that “It is fascinating to have the tournament window for – 2021 confirmed, and I would like to thank the government of St Kitts & Nevis for agreeing to host this year’s tournament.”

He added, “We would also wish to extend our thanks to the Cricket West Indies for helping us build this window in a busy summer of cricket for them. We are looking ahead to once again successfully staging the Hero CPL in 2021.”

On not hosting the CPL this year, Richard Sealy, who served as Minister of Tourism in Barbados for ten years, stated that “There are no significant tourism benefits from the CPL at the ground level. The population of Barbados should not lose any sleep for not hosting the CPL, as it is hosted by the twin-island, St Kitts and Nevis.”

Following the statement, he added, “People should curb their expectations. If you are in a COVID-19 environment and all the hotels are empty, you can set up a bubble here, but if you have any idea that hundreds of people would book hotel rooms and crowd to the CPL finals, that is unlikely to happen, even in non-COVID-19 circumstances.”

This is scheduled to be the ninth season of the Caribbean Premier League- CPL. There are many retentions of players going on in the CPL teams.

Last year, the Hero CPL tournament was won by the team of Trinidad and Tobago island, – Trinbago Knight Riders, by defeating St Lucia Zouks in the tournament finale by eight wickets.

The teams who are competing for the Hero CPL tournament are –

  •  Barbados Tridents
  •  Guyana Amazon Warriors
  •  St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots
