Construction sector to provde more jobs, stimulate economy of St Kitts and Nevis

Basseterre: In its ongoing attempts to boost the local economy, the government of St. Kitts and Nevis has invested in capital projects such as infrastructure and housing.

“The infrastructure and housing projects should lead to more jobs for our people, leading in higher earnings and general improvement in the quality of life,” Dr Timothy Harris, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, said during his first press conference of the year on February 11.

“Private sector investments, such as the Dewars Housing Development and Public-Private Sector Partnership projects like the Liamuiga Housing Project, the New Correctional Facility, and other current CBI initiatives, will all help stimulate economic growth in 2022,” he stated.

“By the second quarter of 2022, we expect NHC to resume housing construction, and we are optimistic that the Credit Union project, which began last year, will generate solid deliverables in 2022,” said the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Harris stated on December 15, 2021 that the building industry has undergone a number of changes over the Federation’s existence. He also mentioned how the building industry has been damaged by lockdowns, border closures, the COVID-19 epidemic, and viral surges around the world.
