Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit announced that the government of Dominica will start the construction of one secondary school named Goodwill and five primary school. He said that the planned construction of six schools will be funded by the government of People’s Republic of China.
Speaking during his press conference, the prime minister said, ”I can also provide an update on planned construction of Goodwill Secondary school and five primary school which will be funded by the government of People’s Republic of China.”
The schools such as Thibaud, Tete Morne, Calibishie, Bellevue Chopin and Sineku will be part of the construction of the five primary school. Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that the project will be started very soon as the schools are currently on course. The constructions of the schools is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
Recently, the government of Dominica and Chinese authorities hosted the communication to analyze the aspects of the projects. The communication outlined that the project is now on in the tendered stage and near to the beginning of the construction. “The most recent communication received from Chinese that they did in May 19, 2023 indicates that the project is now in the tendered phase and close to the commencement of the construction, ”said the prime minister.
In preparation for the construction activity, the government of Dominica will very shortly finalize the temporary relocation of the students for the duration of the construction period as well as the demolition of the buildings at some of the sites of the schools. The students of Goodwill Secondary School will also be relocated during construction.
While reiterating the commitment of the government of Dominica, PM Roosevelt Skerrit said that the government of Dominica has worked diligently to repair the school which were severely damaged by Hurricane Maria. He also decided to add these six schools in the list.
Further, he expressed heartfelt delight to provide the facilities to the people of these community and said,”Indeed I am sure that the people of these communities are quite releaved to hear the construction of these facilities will very soon commence.”
