Castries, Saint Lucia: Saint Lucia secured victory in the first match of the October edition of the 2023-23 CONCACAF Nations League. The team defeated Guadeloupe in the League B, Group A and maintained its position in the league chart.

The Saint Lucia vs Guadeloupe match took place on 13 October,2023 at the Beausejour Stadium in Gros Islet, Saint Lucia under the 2023-24 CONCACAF.

PM Cannigia Elva carries forward father Titus Elva’s Legacy in his debut match 2 Nations League. St Lucia triumphed the match against Guadeloupe with 2-1. In the match, Elva shot his first attempt of the match from the right side of the box at 9’ but got blocked.

Another attempt assisted by Elva, made by Kurt Frederick was saved in the centre of goal at 16’. Guadeloupe scored the first goal of match against Saint Lucia at 29’. Later, Elva tied the event at 1-1 in the 45’ and played a noteworthy role in the win scored by Saint Lucia.

During the second half, Jevick MacFarlane from Saint Lucia shot from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Caniggia Elva, this shot became the second goal by team Saint Lucia and helped them secure the win.

Elva, who is from Vieux Fort, is the son of former player of Saint Lucia international, Titus Elva. Elva is a right footed, 27-year-old footballer who mainly attacks the midfield. He has made 2 goals in 9 matches he played prior to this match and seems a promising player for the future of the team.

Notably, his father, Titus Elva after being a member of the Saint Lucia International team, retired in 2008. Cannigia Ginola Elva is named after the famous soccer stars Claudio Caniggia of Argentina and David Ginola of France.

Born in Saint Lucia he moved to Canada at a young age of 11 and got selected for various famous clubs including the Spanish club FC Barcelona and the English Premier League football club Arsenal.

He however he could not gain any match practice back then due to citizenship issues with Canada and thus was not ready for the clubs’ first teams. Up until last year, Elva had made 19 goals in the 156 appearances he made in Liga, Regionalliga and Bundesliga leagues from 2015 to 2023.
