Commodore Antonette Wemyss Gorman will become the first female chief of Jamaica’s Defence. Lieutenant General Rocky Meade had retired recently.

Wemyss Gorman would be getting promoted to the ranks of Rear Admiral in the Month of January 2022.

General Meade became Chief of Defence Staff in December 2016. He remained a member of the Jamaica Defence Force for 38 years. Gorman, 48, was one of

Three senior Jamaican Defence Force commanders were interviewed for their job. Gorman, 48, was one of those 3 officers.

Gorman has been serving in the Jamaican Defence forces for the last 29 years. These 29 years have been filled with outstanding awards, excellent service records. She gave many exemplary strategic commands while performing in her technical areas of work. She gave excellent services, whether in or out of JDF.

Wemyss Gorman graduated with honours from the University of the West Indies with a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies.

She got promoted to her first rank in December 2019 when she took over as the Force Executive Officer in January 2020.

She took charge of the Maritime Air and Cyber Command, Caribbean Military Maritime Training Centre. Other defence forces that she commanded include JDF Air Wing, JDF Coast Guard Special Forces.
