Colombia receives donation of 2.5 million COVID doses from US

The United States administration has donated more shipments of the COVID-19 vaccines to Colombia while stating that a portion from the donated vaccines must be given to the Venezuelan migrants and refugees residing in Colombia.

On July 1, 2021, Colombia received the first donation of 2.5 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines. The US embassy in the capital of Colombia – Bogota, in their Twitter post on Friday, noted that the assistance of in total 3.5 million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines would be sent to the nation, and the vaccines would arrive in Colombia this Sunday.

Following the statement, the US embassy added, “The US continues to stand alongside Colombia and that the latest donation would reach more vulnerable Colombians and Venezuelan migrants.”

Responding to the donation of the COVID-19 vaccines, the Venezuelan ambassador Carlos Vecchio thanked and appreciated the efforts of the United States government for also including the Venezuelan migrants in their donation of coronavirus vaccines to Colombia.

“This is a gesture that no other nation had made in favour of our migrants. It is the right way. Thank you, US,” he added.

Besides this, the Colombian ambassador Juan Carlos Pinzon while thanking the people and the government of the US, stated, “Thank you to the people of the US and their President Joe Biden’s team who always support Colombia.”

In the month of June this year, the President of the US – Joe Biden, had pledged to donate a total of 14 million doses of different marks of COVID-19 vaccines to the nations in Latin America & the Caribbean Region.

Till now, Brazil, Guatemala, Bolivia, Honduras, El Salvador, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Costa Rica and Paraguay have received the donation of COVID-19 vaccines by the US government. At the same time, Panama would receive donations anytime this week.
