CDC issues "do not travel" warning to 15 nations against Omicron

United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a warning to Americans not to travel to 15 additional countries due to the rise in cases of Omicron-new variant of COVID-19. The nations include:

  • Jamaica.
  • St Barthelemy (St Barts).
  • St Martin and Guadeloupe.
  • Cruise ship passengers and resort-goers frequently visit all popular Caribbean tourists attractions.

CDC has released a list of countries that come under the category of Level Four “Very High” risk destinations for contracting COVID-19. The CDC has last week updated the list. The list includes-

  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Dominican Republic
  • Fiji
  • Guadeloupe
  • Jamaica
  • Kuwait
  • Mongolia
  • Niger
  • Peru
  • Romania
  • Saint Barthelemy
  • Sint Maarten
  • United Arab Emirates

Earlier this week, the CDC has released a warning of travelling to 22 nations and territories the week before this warning, including the Bahamas and several other countries of the Caribbean, along with Israel, Australia, Panama, Bolivia, Qatar and Bermuda. These new additions bring the agency’s list of destinations to avoid to over 100, including European destinations such as the U.K., Italy and Spain.

The CDC issues the highest Level Four warnings when the number of COVID-19 cases reaches a mark of more than 500 cases per 100,000 people within a period of 28 days. Whereas, the different process has been followed for places with less than 100,000 people.

Along with this warning, the CDC reveals that even if you are up to date with your COVID-19 vaccines, you may still be at the continuous risk of getting and spreading contagious mutants.

If one is planning to travel, the CDC says to make sure that you are completely vaccinated against contagious mutants and must fulfill the criteria by following all the requirements and conditions set up by airlines and your destination, such as wearing facial masks, proof of vaccination, testing or quarantine.
