Cayman to soon achieve herd immunity target against COVID

The statistics show that Cayman island would be the first in the region to achieve its target of herd immunity against the COVID-19 mutant.

Cayman: The statistics show that Cayman island would be the first in the region to achieve its target of herd immunity against the COVID-19 mutant.

The latest vaccination statistics were provided by the CMO, Dr John Lee. The country only lacks some 5,000 more people to get vaccinated in order to reach its national target.

The vaccination benchmark for herd immunity and border reopening is 70 per cent. As of May 20, 64 per cent, that is – 41,307 individuals of the country’s 65,000 residents, had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and around – 54 per cent have received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and are fully vaccinated now. 

The island did not record any positive case since 20 May 2021. Since the starting of the COVID-19 pandemic, till now, Cayman island had reported around a total of 574 cases, and so far, only two individuals died because of the deadly virus. 

So far, a total of 554 people have been recovered from the mutant. 

Vaccination Statistics of some other Caribbean islands –

  • Till 21 May 2021, in Jamaica, around 5.1% population has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 0.5% population is fully vaccinated.
  • In Honduras’ Roatán, around 1.4 % population has received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 0.3% population is fully vaccinated as of 21 May 2021.
  • In the Dominican Republic, around 26.5% population has received their first dose of the vaccine, and around 8.2% population is fully vaccinated.
  • In Antigua and Barbuda, a total of 33.4% population has received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, while 7.3% of the population is fully vaccinated.
  • In the Bahamas, a total of 11.4% population has received its first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 1.5% population is fully vaccinated as of 21 May 2021.
  • In Barbados, 26.6% of the population received their first dose of the vaccine and 18.8% population is fully vaccinated till 22 May 2021.
  • In Belize, a total of 15.4% of the population received their first dose of the vaccine and 2.7% of the population is fully vaccinated till 21 May 2021.
  • In St Lucia, a total of 15% of the population received their first dose of the vaccine and 9.8% is fully vaccinated till 22 May 2021.
  • In Anguilla, a total of 58.4% of the population received their first dose of the vaccine and 29.3% of the population is fully vaccinated till 17 May 2021.
  • In Grenada, a total of 12.3 % of the population received their first dose of the vaccine and 5.2% population is fully vaccinated till 11 May 2021.
  • In St Kitts and Nevis, a total of 49.4% of the population received their first dose of the vaccine and 18.1 % population is fully vaccinated till 24 May 2021.
