Caribbean leaders pay tribute to Archbishop Desmond Tutu
Caribbean leaders mourn on demise of Tutu
On the demise of South African born Nobel Prize-winning Anglican cleric Archbishop Desmond Tutu, two democratic Caribbean legislators have mourned and paid tribute to him.
While presenting deep condolences, Yuvette D.Clark, an American politician, said,” what a massive loss for the world and humanity. Archbishop Desmond Tutu was the global leader of society and human rights and he worked to unite the world in a common cause.
Clarke, a leader of the 9th Congressional District in Brookly, asserted,” he was a great leader, and today world has lost a legend. Tutu was a leader and great inspiration in the Global Racial Justice movement”.
The Congresswoman shared that the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize winner was the Commencement Speaker when she was graduating.
” I have incredible memories of the passion of Tutu for justice as Commencement Speaker. He was an inspiring leader. The legacy left by him will shape and transform the generation to come,” Clarke added.
Further, New York City Councilman Dr Mathieu Eugene, born in Haiti, is the second legislator to tribute Tutu. He described Tutu as “a genuinely inspirational icon, a leader in the anti-apartheid movement, an icon who, instead of many obstacles, devoted his life to the fight for freedom, justice and goodwills for all of humanity.”
He asserted,” The world will remember Bishop Tutu as a tireless advocate. He gave voice to those who lived under systematic oppression, a trusted source of wisdom, who work for the unity and peace and fight with discrimination and intolerance.”
“His legacy will remain and live on in all who want and believe in the value of unity, peace and respect that help us work toget5her towards humanity and common goods as human beings,” he further told. ” I wish God give strength to his family during this tough time”.
Moreover, Eric Adams, a Mayor-elect of New York City, also mourn the demise of Global leader Tutu. He said,” it is a heartbreaking loss for the global community. A leader of civil rights and fight for human and economic justice throughout the world, his legacy resonated across the generations, cultures and every society.”
Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit also pays tribute to the iconic global leader. He cited,” Truly saddened by the passing of Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, who fought against apartheid. He devoted his whole life to the benevolence of his country. I pay my condolences to his family & the people of South Africa”.
