Caribbean: As Dickon Mitchell became the new Prime Minister of Grenada, the entire Caribbean extended heartfelt greetings to him on his victory. Grenada witnessed general elections on June 23, 2022, in which the National Democratic Party managed to secure nine seats out of the 15 seats and attain victory. 

The entire Caribbean extended greetings such as follows: 

Antigua and Barbuda

Prime Minister Gaston Browne extended warm wishes to the new PM of Grenada- Dickon Mitchell. He stated that on behalf of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and on his own behalf, he congratulated him warmly on his election as Prime Minister of Grenada.

“I have long held the Government and People of Grenada in high esteem. Our countries, brotherly members of the OECS, have long enjoyed an amicable relationship, one that I am confident will be further strengthened under your tenure,” PM Browne asserted. 

Hailing Grenada, PM Gaston Browne added that the English-speaking Caribbean is a shining example of democracy at work, replacing governments, changing leadership, and positioning legislatures to make changes to existing systems. 

He said that the recent election in Grenada, which their party won convincingly, serves as a model that is commonplace in the region and the OECS sub-region. The absence of violence and the peaceful changing of the guard serve as an exemplar for many.

PM Browne noted, “I look forward to working closely with you, Prime Minister-elect, in the interests of our countries and in the wider interests of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). I avail myself of this opportunity to renew the assurances of my highest esteem.”

Barbados

Prime Minister of Barbados- Mia Amor Mottley exclaimed, “On behalf of the Government and people of Barbados, I wish to extend congratulations to Prime Minister-Elect of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell, on his victory. I look forward to working with you as we seek to transform our Caribbean region.”

Dominica

Prime Minister of Dominica,- Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, hailed Dickon Mitchell and congratulated him for holding the position of the Prime Minister of Grenada. 

PM Skerrit stated that Congratulations to the Prime Minister-elect of Grenada Dickon Mitchell and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on emerging victorious in the June 23 general elections.

“I wish Mr Mitchell every success as he forms a new government to lead the Grenadian people, and I look forward to working with him to advance the common development goals of our region,” he underscored. 

St Lucia

Prime Minister of St Lucia- Philip J Pierre, said that the people of Grenada have spoken. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) will form the new government of Grenada.

While extending greetings, PM Pierre underlined, “On behalf of the government and the people of Saint Lucia, I wish to extend congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Dickon Mitchell and the NDC on their electoral victory.” 

He added that he has an opportunity to shape your country’s future in conformity with the collective aspirations of the people of Grenada.
