Caribbean: Heads of the government of various Caribbean countries have attended the United States Caribbean Leaders Meeting virtually on Friday, April 29, 2022. The meeting was hosted by the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris.
The discussion mainly revolved around climate change and the significance of climate resilience for small island nations. The meeting also featured how climate change affected these small nations.
Various Caribbean countries such as St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Trinidad and Tobago, and St Kitts and Nevis have participated in the virtual meeting and discussed several matters of concern. The leaders who participated in the meeting were Prime Minister Philip J Pierre, Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, and Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris.
St Lucia:
Prime Minister Philip J Pierre took to Twitter and provided an update on his virtual meeting with Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris. “This evening, I am attending a US-Caribbean Leaders Meeting hosted by the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, “said PM Pierre.
The areas for discussion include economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, security cooperation, and climate resilience and energy security, critical areas which PM Pierre discussed in his Budget Presentation.

He further stated that he is working efficiently to create proper bilateral ties and to ensure the upliftment of the St Lucians.

Antigua and Barbuda:

The government of Antigua and Barbuda writes, “Prime Minister Gaston Browne is participating in a virtual meeting with USA Vice President Kamala Harris, as she holds a Virtual Meeting with Leaders Representing 15 Caribbean Nations, Underscoring the Importance of Strengthening the Partnership with Our Caribbean Neighbors. They have discussed Economic Recovery Following the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Climate Crisis, and Security.”
Trinidad and Tobago:
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley has participated in the Virtual US-Caribbean Leaders Meeting hosted by the Hon. Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States.
St Kitts and Nevis:
St. Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris and CARICOM Heads hold important talks with US Vice President Kamala Harris in a virtual setting.
The leaders discussed the way forward for greater partnerships and cooperation in a number of key areas including climate change and security.
On the other hand, the Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris also took to Twitter and expressed pleasure after holding a virtual meeting with the Caribbean leaders.
Dominica:
Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit also present in the virtual meeting with VP Kamala Harris and discussed solution regarding climate change.
Outlining the aspects of the meetings, VP Kamala Harris noted, “As a neighbor in the Western Hemisphere, the United States shares a common bond with the nations of the Caribbean. This afternoon I convened leaders of the Caribbean to strengthen our partnership around economic recovery, security, climate and energy.”
