Roseau, Dominica: The commencement of the International Airport has started, and this major project will be delivered to the people of Dominica by 2026. During his 2022/23 budget presentation, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit announced the decision and added that they had selected the right partner to ensure this becomes a reality.
He outlined the key milestones which have been looking forward by the Government during this fiscal year and stated:
Emphasizing the opportunities through the development of the Airport, Prime Minister asserted that it would increase opportunities for contractors, construction workers, engineers, plumbers, electricians, and other service providers.
“Due to the high volume of work, the supplies which will be required, as well as the expected high level of employment, many people and businesses in Dominica are expected to benefit during the construction of the International Airport,” said the prime minister.
During his presentation, PM Skerrit considered that the Airport would be a game changer for Dominica and its people. He stressed that they call on Dominicans to equip themselves for the opportunities which will be available once the Airport is operational.
While encouraging students in the respective fields, he said, “I encourage students to begin pursuing relevant fields of study that will position them to take advantage of employment opportunities as air traffic controllers, specialized equipment maintenance personnel, firefighters, customs, immigration, and security officers among others.”
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit further asserted that Infrastructure and sectoral development do not end goals in themselves. This Administration is using them to make lives better, improve the country and ensure people-centred development.
Prime Minister Skerrit presented EC$1.3 billion budget on Tuesday. He announced various projects new medical school for Dominica, and changes to the VAT electricity units.
