Jammu and Kashmir: Bollywood has been granted permission to shoot for their films in Kashmir again by the Film Policy and the union territory emerged as the shooting destination for filmmakers across India.
As per the reports, the Kashmir authorities have granted permission to 406 filmmakers to shoot movies, web series, music videos, serials and other genres in the Union Territory. Various filmmakers of the different languages such as Punjabi, Urdu, Telugu and Kannada have also shot their movies in Kashmir.
The shooting of the films have provided chances to the local people of Kashmir to play several characters in these movies which included Aamir Khan starrer Lal Singh Chadda, Vijay Deverakonda’s Kushi and Arbaaz Khan’s Tanaav have casted several Kashmiri artists in the film.
Various locations such as Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, Sonamarg and Dodhpathri were became the major locations in the shooting of these films. In order to attract filmmakers to Jammu and Kahsmir, the government has also launched its maiden film policy in 2021 and also created a Film Development Fund for the distribution of the subsidies in the Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy 2021.
Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council also launched single-window mechanism to provide a platform to filmmakers where they can facilitate hassle-free shooting. Various film policy have been applying the shooting policy during their filmmaking. They have also provided subsidies with a standard subsidy of 50 perecnt of COP or Rs 1crore up to Rs 5 crore to people under the new policy. Dr Syed Abid Rashid, Commissioner Tourism Department stated that they are trying hard to promote Jammu and Kashmir as a major film tourism destination.
He said that they are talking with several stakeholders in the film industry to get directly or indirectly associated with the production of movies. Along with that, the government has also worked a lot to promote the safe and secure culture in the region.
