Castries, Saint Lucia: The annual Republic Bank International Bill Fish Tournament is all set to return to the shores of Saint Lucia after two years long break. The event is carded for October 16- 20, 2023.
The tournament will be hosted by the Saint Lucia Game Fishing Association (SLGFA) in collaboration with Roodney Bay Marina.
The last Bill Fishing Tournament was held in 2019. The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports through its Alternative Sports program will continue to show its full support towards the development of the Game Fishing Industry.
The SLGFA together with collaborating agencies looks forward to working with local fishermen in the development of sustainable fishing with the deployment of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs). The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports wishes the (SLGFA) and all its sponsors a successful fishing tournament.
As per the previous records, the tournament consisted of the potential to attract more than 130 anglers to the island onboard vessels from the United Kingdom, United States, Antigua, Martinique, Barbados, Grenada and Trinidad and Tobago.
In the 25th edition of the Billfish tournament, Saint Lucia presented more than 100k in prizes to be won which was also included a CAR this year. The victory in the tournament was secured by Trinidad and Tobago.
Besides this, the results of the 24th edition of the tournament was also exciting and great. In this edition, the biggest dolphin award was given to 33.5lbs, Blue Fever owned by Dominic Wallace and biggest tuna was turned out to be 27lbs, A salt Weapon owned by Mark Jefferies.
The Junior Angler were secured by Nathan Jean-Joseph who released Hullabaloo with 1500 pts and 4 blue marlin and 1 sailfish. On the other hand, Female Angler was turned out to be Sanderine Maugee who secured Two Thou with 700 pts. She released two blue marlin.
At the edition, a total of 52 Billfish were released.
With the staging of the BillFish Tournament, Saint Lucia is on the drive to become the excellent fishing destination. The tournament determines the team who will qualify for the World Championship.
