He further added, “Experts have made the prediction that it would take up three years for the Caribbean island to jump back to where it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, 100 per cent of pre-Covid-19 capacity by January next year, maybe even 110 per cent.”
The Tourism Minister further added that tourists from the US, in particular, has helped the island lift back the tourism dollar. The main legacy carriers like United, American, Delta, and Copa from Panama are now flying into Belize. At the same time, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines would soon be on board, connecting the cities such as – Seattle and Los Angeles.
Belize’s arrival figures have jumped from 7,000 in January to 26,000 now, with tourists coming mainly from the United States but also from 81 other nations.
Following the statement, he added, “Belize is uniquely Caribbean in its food and mus; it has also become Latinized and is taking benefit of land arrivals as part of the multi-destination tourism we share with Mexico and the Central American nations.”
The fully vaccinated individuals can enter Belize without a COVID-19 test, while the strict COVID-19 protocols remain in place. Those who are not inoculated or fully vaccinated would have to take a COVID-19 test.
So far, the Caribbean island has vaccinated a total of 90,000 people from a target of 240,000, is expecting to vaccinate 170,000 individuals by the end of July month.
“During the lockdown, Belize has improved its tourism product, and a number of new resorts are now operational, such as – the Alaia Belize, part of the Autograph Collection from Marriott, in Ambergris Caye near San Pedro,” the tourism minister added.
