BDF and United States Southern Command jointly hosts CANSEC 22 conference in Barbados

A conference has been scheduled to be held between the Barbados Defence Force and the United States Southern Command as they both jointly hosted the conference named CANSEC 22. The conference is scheduled to be held in Barbados during the period 5 - 7 April 2022 at the Hilton Barbados Resort.

The conference is scheduled to be held in Barbados during the period 5 – 7 April 2022 at the Hilton Barbados Resort.

Further, the theme of the conference this year is based on various aspects related to the environment and the climate changes that relatively affected the small island nations.

It is the 24th year of the conference, and now in its 24th year, the theme for this year’s conference is: “Multinational Cooperation In A Changing Operational Environment” paying particular attention to Counter-Terrorism initiatives, Counter-illicit flows operations, coordination for Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR), and protecting the Blue Economy with the view to countering transnational threats and enhancing regional security.’

Further, yesterday- Monday, April 4, 2022, Chief of Staff Commodore Errington Shurland welcomed General Laura Richardson to Barbados. The welcome ceremony has been held for the co-hosting of the Caribbean Nation Security Conference (CANSEC22) during the period 5-7 April 2022.

The Barbados Defence Force mounted a Guard of Honour for General Laura Richardson, Commander of the US Southern Command and Co-host of the Caribbean Nations Security Conference, April 5-7, 2022.

Further, the official party witnessed the signing of the Engagement and Cooperation Framework, which seeks to enhance bilateral defence and security cooperation.
Additionally, Gen. Richardson participated in Women’s Peace and Security discussions, while gaining feedback on US Training provided to the BDF
