The Caribana Festival is a four-day celebration of the vibrant culture, local music and pageantry of Barbuda.

Barbuda: After the absence prevailed by the two-year hiatus of the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular and much awaited Carnival of Barbuda named Caribana Festival is all set to make a grand comeback with full excitement. 

The Caribana Festival is a four-day celebration of the vibrant culture, local music and pageantry of Barbuda. 

Normally, the festival is held over the Whit weekend, which will take place from June 3 to June 6, 2022. The theme for the festival this year will be “Reviving our culture needs me and you, Barbuda Caribana 2022.” 

During the hosting of the festival, the Culture Coordinator within Barbuda’s Tourism, Sports, and Culture Department, Jezette Davis, asserted, “We made a commitment that the festival will be a weekend full of excitement, food, drinks, music, and plenty outside.”

In the Caribana, the resident and visitors across the globe will experience the breath-taking beauty of Barbuda and will also enjoy various activities such as horse racing action, battle it out during the fishing tournament, dancing to the sweet sounds of calypso and soca music, delight in Barbuda’s famed seafood specialities and much more.

Here is the full list of the events that will be taken place for Caribana: 

  • On June 3, 2022: The name of the first event for the first day will be Little Mr. and Miss Barbuda
  • On June 4, 2022: People and visitors will witness and enjoy the event named Johnny Desuza Fishing Tournament and Beach Bash
  • On June 5, 2022: The name of the event the day will be Horse Race & Calypso Melting Pot
  • On June 6, 2022: J’ouvert, Food Fair & Marketplace will conduct on the day. 

Further, the weekend will be started with the event ‘Little Mr. and Miss Barbuda’. The event is known for the cultural display of talent, which is showcased by the youths of Barbuda. 

It is further followed by the event named day soaking up the sun and enjoying Barbuda’s River Beach. It will include various activities such as a fishing tournament and an epic beach bash packed with lots of games, music, and entertainment

The horse races will also attract audiences, and the Calypso Melting Pot showcased the mesmerizing part of the Carnival on Sunday, with each calypsonian aiming to emerge the winner.

The final showdown that culminates the four days of culture, sports, entertainment, and revelry is the J’ouvert on Monday, a spectacular display of masqueraders dressed in humorous fashions and colourful t-shirts dancing through the streets of Codrington to live band performances and DJ music.

The Monday will also feature a not-to-be-missed food fair that will display the culinary skills of amazing cooks in Barbuda and satisfy the appetite of revellers.

“Barbuda’s pink sand beaches, turquoise waters, Magnificent Frigatebird Sanctuary, and laid-back lifestyle have for years been an attraction for visitors.
