Barbados Women cricket team to represent West Indies at next year’s Commonwealth Games

West Indies representative team in next year’s Commonwealth Games. The announcement was made by the CWI – Cricket West Indies.

This announcement came just after the CWI Board of Directors chose to postpone the – T20 Blaze and Women’s Super50 Cup, that was to be the West Indies qualifying tournament for the CWG, unto next year.

The CWI, in an issued statement, stated, “Following the postponement, the Barbados Women’s team would be the representative team from the West Indies as a result of their victory in the 2020 CWI T20 Blaze tournament & in line with Commonwealth Games Association Tournament rules agreed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).”

After the ODI and T20I dates for the West Indies vs South Africa series, from August 31 to September 19, were finalised, the decision to postpone the regional women’s tournaments was taken.

The CEO of CWI – Johnny Grave, asserted, “We have been forced to take the decision to postpone the – Women’s T20 Blaze and Women’s CG Insurance Super50 Cup for this year.”

Following the statement, he congratulated the Women cricket team of Barbados and asserted, “We want to congratulate the Barbados Women’s team for being named to represent the West Indies in the Commonwealth Games 2022. We wish them all the very best as they compete for the gold medal, and we know they would continue to make West Indies proud.”

He further added that the board has invested in numerous high-performance camps and international fixtures for women.

The people have also wished good luck to the women cricket team and are excited about the matches. Cricket is one of the famous and favourite sports in the Caribbean region.

In cricket, the West Indies is a sporting confederation of fifteen mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries and territories; many historically formed the British West Indies.

It includes – Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, St. Lucia, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago & the United States Virgin Islands.
