Barbados is ready to receive an extra consignment of Astrazeneca vaccines. Dr Elizabeth Ferdinand, the coordinator of the COVID-19 National Vaccination Programme, has not yet disclosed about the source of vaccines. But, she has noted that an increased number of vaccines will empower the vaccination drive in the nation.

The coordinator of the COVID-19 National Vaccination Programme stated that, “AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines will be made publically available to all the general people throughout the vaccination process. She further added that the last batch of COVID-19 vaccines had run out and would finish on January 31, 2022.

Earlier, PAHO and COVAX facility has donated the doses to the island.
She further added that Barbados is currently offering Pfizer, Sinopharm and Johnson and Johnson vaccinations sites or mobile centres around the island country.

Meanwhile, while emphasising the vaccination rate, the Health Ministry advised people of the island, who are yet to receive their first dose of vaccine or are partially vaccinated should get their doses.

As per the official government data related to vaccination status, around 158,775 people have already received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines as of Monday, February 1, 2022, while 147, 277 people have had their required number of vaccines doses and are now completely vaccinated.

As per the data released, around 54.3% of the overall population have received both of their vaccinations, whereas 64.5 per cent of the eligible population is completely vaccinated. Meanwhile, about 69.5% of the general population has received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines.
