Barbados to receive 70,000 Pfizer vaccine doses from the US Government

the arriving shipment of 70,000 doses at the starting of the next month

US Government is all set to ship another shipment of Pfizer vaccines to Government to Barbados. While speaking during a press conference, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley urged the Barbadians to get vaccinated, also highlighted the arriving shipment of 70,000 doses at the starting of the next month.

PM Mottley said, “I’m happy to report to the country that having met with Vice President Harris last week, that her National Security Adviser communicated with my Permanent Secretary yesterday morning the next tranche of vaccines will come the week of November 7.”

While extending her thanks to the US Government, PM Mottley said that this new addition of vaccine doses would be helping them to fasten the vaccination drive on the island. The Government seeks to vaccinate the majority of the population against COVID-19.

According to the data, till the present date, the Government has successfully vaccinated 146,000 persons, which includes children aged from 12 to 18.

PM Mottley said, “The bottom line is that for whatever reason, there are people who cannot take it, either because of medical reasons or severe philosophical reasons. In those circumstances, we are saying that we accept that the only way to the destination is not vaccines; we accept that testing can also give us an idea of safety, but we know it is cumbersome that is where we talk about the safe zones.”

Vaccinated travelers arriving in Barbados having a valid negative pre-flight COVID-19 PCR test result would not be asked to take a COVID-19 test after arrival or getting quarantined on the island. This decision would come into effect from October 24 Sunday. The mentioned details were stated by Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic, Minister of Health and Wellness.
