Barbados to be first Caribbean island to have Direct flight from Scotland

Barbados is all set to become the first Caribbean island that will have a direct route from Scotland, as Virgin Atlantic launches service from Edinburgh to Bridgetown. This new flight connecting Scotland to Barbados would be operating twice a week, that is, on Wednesday and Sunday.

Senator Lisa Cummins, who is the Minister of Tourism and International Transport, while welcoming the announcement and stated, “The fact that this new plan is Scotland’s only direct flight to the Caribbean is something that satisfies everyone in Barbados with great pride.”

The Minister noted that this is the first time that Virgin Atlantic has flown international flights from – Edinburgh.

Following the statement, the Minister added, “It really is a very significant moment in the history for both – Scotland & Barbados. We look forward to show that Scottish travellers that Barbados is a safe destination for them which is ready & waiting for them to enjoy.”

The Minister further noted that this establishment would offer even more connectivity options for Scottish holidaymakers, business travellers and residents and added that “Barbados is pushing for the diversification of routes, the airlift to assist those routes, & new destinations that can partner with Barbados on multi-destination marketing & partnerships, so this is in line with that policy direction for Barbados and something that we would continue to build out.”

The Head of Caribbean at Virgin Atlantic – Nikki Goldsmith, stated that Barbados island is Virgin Atlantic’s heartland in the Caribbean region.

She added, “Our new flights mean more consumers than ever before get to experience the stunning beaches, equisetic cuisine and rich culture that Barbados has buckets of.”

The Transport Minister of Barbados – Graeme Dey, also welcomed and appreciated the decision of Virgin Atlantic. He added that “It is inspiring to see airlines develop their connectivity to Scotland at this time, and I am sure the passengers would welcome this news.”
