Barbados: Barbados Cycling Union’s Foursquare Circuit road race was staged on Sunday morning with 56 competitors and among them were several junior riders who put in some impressive performances.

Barbados Children Directory took to Facebook and shared glimpses of the road race. It stated that the Juniors, who competed over six laps, saw Liam Hutchinson of Fugen take the gold with Najari Chase of Bike Caribbean placing second and Joshua Maynard also of Fugen placing third.

The BMX category which was split into two age groups, 6-9 and 10-12 years, preceded the main event with one lap from the start to Six Roads and back.

In the first race of the 6-9 category, Shae Weekes of Golden Wheelers beat Zane Nichols to earn gold and silver, respectively. In the 10-12 section, Golden Wheelers’ Rashone Blades, gKelvon Harewood and Daquan Chase swept the top three positions.

In race two, Weekes took first place again, this time beating clubmate Kirton (Golden Wheelers) and Nichols. In the 10-12 section, Golden Wheelers made another podium sweep through Dylan Headley, Blades and Harewood.

In the women’s section, 14-year-old Arielle Greaves of Sentry/Glassesco won her second competitive race as she kept up with the male riders until she completed her five laps in an extremely impressive performance.

Last Friday, Trinity Academy hosted its annual science fair under the theme ‘The Marvellous Coconut’ which displayed coconut products made by the children.

The children were asked to find innovative ways to utilise the coconut in agriculture, medicine and food an to look at it other than selling coconut water on the road side and their displays were products of this project.

Tashawna Phillips a fifth form student of the St George Secondary school made her school proud when she won the girls’ under-20 discus throw and the shot put in the same division, during the field events of the Barbados Secondary School Athletic Championships last week.
