Barbados records two new COVID-19 cases

The Barbados island has recorded two new active cases of the deadly Coronavirus - COVID-19.

Barbados: The Barbados island has recorded two new active cases of the deadly Coronavirus – COVID-19.

These new COVID-19 cases were confirmed by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory on 15 May 2021. One of the recorded cases is one, and the other one is female. These Corona-virus positive cases were assessed from the 373 tests conducted.

On the other side, Five individuals recovered from the COVID-19 virus and were discharged, while 88 individuals remain in the isolation.

So far, the public health laboratory has conducted – 162 817 tests.
Under the – National vaccination programme for COVID-19, a total of 75,920 people have been immunised with their first and second dose of the vaccine. Out of these, 42,904 people have been fully vaccinated during the second phase of the vaccination programme.

Barbados received its first shipment of 33,600 Oxford- Astrazeneca dose on 6 April,2021 and recently, the island received its second shipment of COVID-19 vaccines under the COVAX facility, which is an initiative started by PAHO, UNICEF, CEPI, WHO and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance Gavi.

If we look at the statistics, till now, there are a total of 3,965 active COVID-19 mutant cases. A total of 3,917 people have been recovered from the deadly virus, and so far, 46 deaths have been reported on Barbados island amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Worldwide there are a total of 16.3 crore active corona-virus cases, and 33.8 lakh deaths have been reported globally due to the COVID-19 mutant. Its been a year when the pandemic hit the world. This pandemic has severely impacted the global economy.

In recent years, the economic activity in Barbados island has more focused on the tourism sector. Barbados is an eastern – Caribbean island and an independent – British Commonwealth nation. Bridgetown is the capital of the island.
