103 fresh Covid-19 cases recorded in Barbados in a single day

Barbados records 103 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, taking the total tally to 26,668 cases. The recent spike in number came after lab authorities had conducted 1,292 tests on Thursday, December 9.

Out of 103 new Covid-19 cases, forty-six(46) are males, and fifty-seven (57) are females who were recently diagnosed with Covid-19 on Wednesday. Among them, 19 persons were under the age of 18, and 84 were 18 years and older of age.

The number of people in isolation facilities was 296, while 1,866 were in home isolation.

Meanwhile, the number of people who succumbed to the Covid-19 on Thursday is three(3). The number of deceased includes a forty-year-old (43) woman and a ninety-year-old (90) man who passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Department. They both were unvaccinated.

Additionally, a ninety four-year-old(94) woman passed away from the viral illness at the Blackman and Gollop Isolation Facility. She was partially vaccinated.

As of December 9, there were 249 deaths reported from the virus.

Meanwhile, the Barbados government is continuously emphasizing the need to get vaccinated and are also generating campaigns to inform people who are reluctant to get a vaccine.

Since February last year, the public health laboratory has carried out 448,856 tests and recorded 26,668 cases, including 12,698 males and 13,970 females of COVID-19.

Under the National Vaccination Programme for COVID-19, the total number of persons with at least one dose is 154,334 (67.6 per cent of the eligible population).

The total number of fully vaccinated persons is 139,285 (51.4 per cent of the total population or 61 per cent of the eligible population). The eligible population represents those persons who are 12 years and older.
