Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Amor Motley showed grave concern over the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia and stated on behalf of the government on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

While expressing his deep concern over Russia Ukraine tension, PM Mia Motley voted that the things happening between Ukraine and Russia over the past few days and weeks was quite disturbing for the ordinary people of the countries, but the United Nations and other firm leaders must have to adopt adequate steps which all states depend for their safety and security.

She further emphasised the role of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) have cleared its position on February 14, 2020, in which it sticks to the commitment such as respecting each other’s sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of another state. She insisted that the community always promoted peace, sce7ritu and safety and always preferred diplomatic talks instead of destruction path.

Barbados always reaffirmed its various principles and maintained international engagement, such as the situation that happens in Venezuela, our regional neighbour, underscored PM Mia Mottley.

She further emphasised that the administration of Barbados have been tense with the actions taken by the authorities of the Russian state. It is quite ironic that on February 21, Russia has declared Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk as an independent states, but on the next day, February 23, Russia has called military operations in the Donbas region.

It is a clear violation of the United Nations Charter what exactly asserted by the United Nations chief Antonio Guterres said as the actions of the Russian states have been clear violations of various principles associated with the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine and also the rule of the non-interference in the internal affairs of another state.
Barbados always reaffirmed its commitment and preferred diplomatic talks.
