Barbados PM expresses solidarity with India amid COVID-19 crisis

The Prime Minister of Barbados - Mia Amor Mottley, wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India- Narendra Modi and expressed solidarity amid the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in the nation and thanked for the donation of the COVID-19 vaccines to Barbados.

Barbados: The Prime Minister of Barbados – Mia Amor Mottley, wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of India- Narendra Modi and expressed solidarity amid the COVID-19 pandemic crisis in the nation and thanked for the donation of the COVID-19 vaccines to Barbados.

PM Mottley, in her letter, stated, “It is with a heavy heart that I write to you having learnt of the unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases and the number of lives which have been lost in India. On account of the government and the people of Barbados.”

Following her statement, she extended support and cited, “I wish to extend sentiments of support and solidarity to the people and government of India, with whom Barbados enjoys a solid and enduring relationship. It was just recently, through your act of kindness, that we received your gracious donation of 100 000 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines, thereby reaffirming our relationship. Once again, I thank you.”

She further assured the Barbados assistance to the Prime Minister of India in this crucial time and asserted, “COVID-19, by its very nature, continues to challenge us and exhaust the financial and human resources of governments across the globe.”

“But it is the suffering of our citizens and the loss of countless lives which are the realities that we as leaders must face. Prime Minister, I assure you of Barbados’ continued support and any assistance that we may be able to give. Please accept – Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,”- Barbados PM Mottley stated.

The COVID-19 situation in India is not stable and getting worse day by day. According to the statistics, there are a total of 15.9 crore active COVID-19 cases in the world, out of which 2.3 crore cases are of India.

Till now, 1.9 crore people recovered from the virus in India and 2.5 lakh deaths have been reported in the nation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
