Barbados confirms first case of monkeypox
Barbados: As the cases of monkeypox have been rising across the globe, the Caribbean island has made their place in those countries as Barbados confirmed the first case of the monkeypox virus.
As per the official reports, the first case of monkeypox has been confirmed on the island and asserted that the country is fully prepared to handle the situation.
Minister of Health and Wellness of Barbados- Ian Goodign Edghill, through his official statement, asserted that the case is a citizen of Barbados who is in his 30s. The confirmed patient visited the Winston Scott Polyclinic with symptoms of a progressive rash, body pains and fever.
Health Minister stated, “Her sought medical attention at the polyclinic within hours of his arrival in Barbados. The patient was seen and processed based on a history of recent travel and clinical manifestations. The patient was swabbed, and the samples were sent to the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory for testing where results revealed a positive case of monkeypox.”
Health Minister of Barbados- Edghill added that the samples had been processed by the local test, and the result was obtained within 24 hours against the days awaiting results when the particular tests were done by Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA).
“The confirmed patients will remain in isolation, and the authorities are monitoring the direct care and medical supervision of the medical officer of health. In the interest of patient confidentiality, no personal details will be disclosed.”
