Barbados: National Cultural Foundation of Barbados announced the winners of the 2022 National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) Film Competition. The event was held on last Friday at Queen’s park Gallery where different productions were awarded.

The Cultural Foundation cited, “The results are in! The winners of the 2022 NIFCA Film Competition and Challenge were celebrated and awarded for their productions at a ceremony held last Friday at Queen’s Park Gallery.”

List of Results and Awardees

 FILM COMPETITION: Documentary

  • 1st – The Film Guru by Penelope Hynam
  • 2nd – They Thought I Was Mad by Charlette Thomas
  • 3rd – Chronic Medical Conditions of a Cultural Practitioner by Andrina Alleyne

FILM COMPETITION: Narrative Fiction

  • 1st – Undressed Daydreams by Josiah Haynes
  • 2nd – How Bajan Gives Directions by Jomario Goddard
  • FILM COMPETITION: Music Video
  • 1st – Open Ya Eyes An See by Jomario Goddard

FILM CHALLENGE

  • 1st – My Own Two Feet by Joseph Atherley (All Things)
  • 2nd – Independent Dreams by Aaron Yearwood (Privic Media)
  • 3rd – Begging for Change by Jomario Goddard (Dreaming Cloud Films)

Various readers shared the experience and stated, “I read an excerpt of my short story ‘The Crapaud’ at the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) 2022 launch. You’ll also be pleased to know I’ve added wukking up to the competition and have awarded myself a gold medal. (All unbeknownst to the National Cultural Foundation).” 

The 2022 National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA) is officially here. The launch took place in Queen’s Park with a taste of Bajan talents in various creative arts. Returning in a hybrid format, NIFCA remains committed to showcasing the work of practitioners in Dance, Music, Theatre, Literary Arts, Film, Visual Arts and Culinary Arts.
