Barbados accepts free shipments of Pfizer vaccine from US
The Ministry of Health of Barbados has received a total of 129,600 doses of the Pfizer vaccine against the viral infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 from the United States of America on Thursday, February 17, 2022. The delivery was accepted by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Health, Dr Sonia Browne; Minister of State in Foreign Trade and Business Development, Sandra Husbands, and Chief Medical Officer, Dr Kenneth George.
The shipments of the vaccine have been received by the authorities of Barbados at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
While expressing their happiness, the Foreign Trade and Business Minister of Barbados emphasised,” Since the pandemic of the novel coronavirus has emerged in Barbados, the United States has always served the country and come out of as a great helping hand. So far, the government has donated more than 200 million vaccines against the viral infection of the Covid-19 across the globe. We are very elated to have a partner like the United States”.
He further recognised the United States as a longtime friend of Barbados and Caricom and appreciated the country for its huge donation, and stated that the United States has emerged as a great helping hand for small island states.
The Minister of States in the Ministry of Health has also stressed that the nation plays a significant importance in the fight against the viral infection of the novel coronavirus as vaccination is the only solution to combat the infection, especially in the time when Covid restrictions have relaxed, and people are returning to normal phase with face-to-face classes decisions.
She further asserted that children are more vulnerable to the Covid-19 viral infection, and the country is making efforts to protect the children, and with the support of the United States, the country is making vaccinated children who are under 12.
Meanwhile, the Public Affairs Officer with the US Embassy, Bridgetown, Larry Socha asserted that the United States was very proud and delighted to work with Barbados on the donation as with CARICOM, the country is making efficient to these countries against the Covid-19 pandemic, so that with the joint effort we could make the health sector of Barbados and other Caribbean nations stronger and prosperous.
She further informed that the country is donating more than 200,000 shipments of the vaccine to the Caribbean this week.
