Barbados: Ten-year-old Miracle Dacosta of Barbados is a budding young athlete who has her eyes on the bigger picture and she plans to represent her country in the future.
Barbados Children Directory took to Facebook and stated that Miracle, a class three student at St. Paul’s Primary School of Barbados, competed in her school’s sports where she won the 100m and 200m and while she proved to be the fastest girl at the school, her performances gained her a place on the school’s athletic team for NAPSAC.
While Miracle did not make the finals in the 100m at NAPSAC, she went to the finals in the 200m when she ended in fifth place and that was the motivation needed to prepare for the 2024 sports season and NAPSAC as she plans to dominate the 100m, 200m and 400m in her final year at primary school sports. With her coordination, determined attitude and her desire to continue to work hard in track, one can make expect a big splash from Miracle next year.
Miracle’s performances in sports started with Judo when she followed her brother to the sport and while she enjoyed judo, her entry into track brought out a side of her that was never seen before. A selective mute, Miracle spoke only at home up until the age of four or five but all of that changed when she started her journey in the sporting world.
She enjoyed the attention that her sporting abilities created and she started to do interviews after competitions and as she got more into sports her speech challenges eventually disappeared, saving the family hundreds of dollars in speech therapy.
Miracle who is a member of Jump Start athletic Club where she trains twice a week, also enjoys swimming and especially after she learned to swim with Rawle Eversley. She also loves to ride her bike and these activities all served as an important role in her development.
She has a role model in her older brother, Zarell, and she competes with him. Zarell who plays cricket and recently won the 400m race in the Frank Blackman Zone at BSSAC for the Coleridge & Parry School, is a positive influence on Miracle and especially in sports.
There is however another side to this talented young lady that finds her in the kitchen where she can cook a tasty dish of spaghetti and meatballs, pumpkin fritters or even bake some delicious cup cakes. While Miracle’s love for cooking has her thinking about being a chef, that is going to be challenged by her desire to be an Olympian, but given her talents, she can do both.
