Bahamas to host second Virtual Junkanoo Summer Festival

The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation of the Bahamas island is all set to host the 2nd Virtual Junkanoo Summer Festival (JSF) for the upcoming three consecutive Saturdays on August 14, 21 & 28, 2021.

Bahamas: The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation of the Bahamas island is all set to host the 2nd Virtual Junkanoo Summer Festival (JSF) for the upcoming three consecutive Saturdays on August 14, 21 & 28, 2021.

This virtual Festival would be air on the TourismTodayBahamas Facebook page. It would also feature all things such as the Bahamian customs, traditions, Bahamian foods, and the art and history of Junkanoo.

The motive of this Festival is to keep the residents safe in such a time of the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining its cultural heritage.

About the Festival –
Junkanoo Summer Festival is one of the Ministry of Tourism’s premier events, which is conducted annually.

Since its beginning in the year 2015, the Festival has evolved significantly & has gained tremendous popularity. In that thread, the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation invites everyone to join in the celebration to display what is truly Bahamian.

The event would also be hosted by Bahamian singers and songwriters Dyson and Wendy Knight. The event would end with a live Junkanoo performance by an all-star junkanoo band.

The Ministry has stated that this is a highly-anticipated Festival, although virtual. Still, it promises to be entertaining and engaging. It would showcase essential aspects of the Bahamian culture, such as – the creativity of its people, music and dance, stories, Bahamian cuisine, and a variety of local drinks in the island country.

Charity Armbrister, the Director of Cultural and Authentic Events at the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation, stated, “We are greatly proud and excited to bring this unique cultural event to residents and among the visitors.”

Following the statement, the Minister added, “We love showcasing the talented Junkanoo groups that are here in the Bahamas and those who have made it their life’s commitment to preserve our culture.”

She added that the Ministry is satisfied to bring more attention to the wonders of the Bahamas, particularly since the sudden intrusion of the COVID-19 pandemic.
