Bahamas: The government of the Bahamas has received the third tranche of the 33,600 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines via the COVAX Facility. The COVID-19 vaccines arrived at Jet Nassau, FBO, and were welcomed by Prime Minister Minnis, Minister of Health Wells and officials from PAHO and the Bahamas Ministry of Health.
The Prime Minister of the Bahamas – Dr Hubert Minnis, informed that from this tranche of the vaccines, the Bahamas government would return 5,000 doses of vaccines that the island country earlier received from Antigua and Barbuda as part of an exchange in late June.
He added that it is because of this exchange of the COVID-19 vaccine doses, the Bahamas was able to continue its vaccination drive smoothly and added, “I thank our Caribbean neighbours, Antigua and Barbuda, Montserrat and Anguilla, as well the U.K. Government for their collaboration and assistance.”
Following the statement, the PM thanked PAHO and cited, “I once again thank the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) for its generous assistance.”
The citizens can visit the website – vax.gov.bs to make their appointment to receiving their jab of the coronavirus vaccine.
The administration of second doses would continue at Loyola Hall on Thursday and Friday of this week.
Starting from the following Monday, 9 August, additional vaccination centres would be opened in New Providence.
On Monday, the Church of God of Prophecy on East Street would be opened, followed by Baha Mar on Tuesday and St Anselm’s Church Hall on Wednesday. This vaccination drive would be followed by the Baha Mar Convention Center on Tuesday 10 August, followed by the St. Anslem’s Church Hall on Wednesday, 11 August.
In addition, the walk-up appointments would be available at – the Church of God of Prophecy and St. Anselm’s Church vaccination centres.
Despite this, PM outlined the four ultra-cold freezers donated by the U.S. Embassy and thanked the embassy for its logistical and additional support and also urged the citizens to take their dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible in order to defeat the deadly mutant.
