Prime Minister Phillip Davis appealed to the Bahamians to follow the COVID-19 health safety protocols while enjoying the festive season, as the virus is still present in the communities.
As the country is slowly returning to a state of normalcy, the Government urged people to remember the coronavirus pandemic is not over till present.
PM Davis said that during merriment, people should adhere to the COVID-19 existing protocols to remain safe against the deadliest COVID-19 virus, they should wear a face mask and follow social distancing while in public places.
PM Davis added, “The pandemic is still alive, and it is well. And though we are satisfied with the progress we have made to date in lowering the positivity rate, I’m still urging our people to stay safe.”
While speaking on the vaccination PM Davis encouraged the Bahamians to get vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus with the WHO-approved vaccines, including Johnson and Johnson, Pfizer and Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines. Till present, nearly 34 per cent of the adult population has reached herd immunity.
A total of 22,696 COVID-19 infected cases have been reported since the pandemic hit the Bahamas.
So far, 671 deaths have been reported in the Bahamas, and the death count is still expected to increase, as the rest cases are being investigated.
A week ago, the Bahamas Government also lifted the travel bans that were imposed on Haiti and Cuba and also started the flight services to both the Caribbean countries, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary, Clint Watson, stated. While making the announcement Clint Watson, noted that airline ‘Bahamasair’ had resumed its flight services to Haiti.
