Bahamas: Prime Minister of Bahamas Dr. Hubert A. Minnis inaugurated a new power plant on Bimini, signalling a move toward a more reliable energy supply for the island.
The plant is the result of a collaboration between RAV Bahamas Ltd. and New Fortress Energy.
The Government of The Bahamas worked with one of the island’s corporate citizens and investors who embraced an opportunity to assist the island with a clean and reliable energy source.
“This is a welcomed investment,” said Prime Minister Minnis.
RAV Bahamas is a primary developer on Bimini. Its investments include the hotel and casino, the cruise pier, Virgin Cruises Beach Club & the Marina at Bimini Bay, and Rockwell Island. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they donated 4,500 masks to the clinic or essential workers.
Bimini is the westernmost district of the Bahamas & contains a chain of islands located about 80 kilometers due east of Miami. Bimini is the closest point in the Bahamas to the mainland United States and approximately 210 km west-northwest of Nassau. The population is 1,988 as of the 2010 census.
Public reaction :
George, a resident of Bahamas, said, ” No solar or wind, shame. Methane is one of the worst global warming gases. In the first two decades after its release, methane is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide. While methane doesn’t linger as long in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, it is initially far more devastating to the climate because of how effectively it absorbs heat.”
“Clean Energy I don’t see no solar panels nor current turbines, but someone will be making money to ship and supply that fossil fuel right, why yet again, when you had the opportunity to use solar, you did skulduggery.” Samuel, the resident of Bimini, even shared a picture of himself.
Where he is finding all these things to open Elisha questioned against the government
