The Bahamas government has congratulated the back to back Olympic medalist Shaunae Miller for winning a bar of gold in 400m at the Tokyo Olympics for the Bahamas.

Bahamas: The Bahamas government has congratulated the back to back Olympic medalist Shaunae Miller for winning a bar of gold in 400m at the Tokyo Olympics for the Bahamas.

The office of the Prime Minister has issued a statement appreciating the hard work of the Bahamas athlete and congratulating her on a win. The statement cited, “Our small island nation has woken up for a second consecutive morning to joy at the success of one of our athletes at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.”

“I congratulate her on behalf of the Government and the people of the Bahamas.”

“Shaunae Miller-Uibo has defended her 400m gold medal won at the 2016 Olympics in a dominant performance. She is now a back-to-back gold medalist at the 400m,” the press release statement further noted.

This achievement of Shaunae Miller comes one day after another male athlete – Steven Gardiner, won a gold medal in the men’s 400m.

The statement further notes that “Shaunae has been a global talent from her days as a junior athlete. Through hard work, sacrifice and discipline, she has become one of the great track athletes of her generation.”

The entire island of Bahamas is celebrating with Shaunae and her family at this historic win, and she has made us all proud, the statement includes.

The Bahamas government praised the hard work and dedication of both the athletes and stated that Shaunae and Steven both had shown the world that great things come from the small island nation of the Bahamas.

“We would celebrate with them when they return to the Bahamas. This is a great day for The Bahamas,” the statement further noted.

At the World Athletics Championships, Shaunae Miller won the silver medal in the year 2015 and 2019 in the 400 metres and bronze in 2017 in the 200 metres.
