Bahamas: The Government of The Bahamas today signed an agreement with the Freeport Harbour Company to purchase the Grand Bahama International Airport, as part of the strategy to inject new life into the island.

The Government would pay one dollar for the airport facility, and approximately $1 million to assist in staff severance costs.

Prime Minister – the Most Hon. Dr Hubert Minniis, during the signing ceremony on Thursday, 29 April, stated that “While this airport in Grand Bahama was almost completely destroyed by [Hurricane] Dorian, our commitment is steadfast in the rebuilding of the Grand Bahama International Airport as a world-class facility,”

The purchase of the airport follows closely behind the recent reopening of the Grand Lucayan Hotel and the recommissioning of the Rand Memorial Hospital’s newly renovated wards and departments.

“Our immediate-term focus is to leave no stone unturned in the revival of the Grand Bahama economy,” said the Prime Minister.
