Asot Michael facing corruption charges, seeks to defame Antigua and Barbuda
Antigua and Barbuda: Asot Michael, the former member of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, has announced that he will contest from Saint Peter Constituency in the upcoming general elections. Earlier, the minister was a prominent leader of ABLP and has also worked as the Tourism, Economic Development, Investment and Energy Minister under Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
But with the passage of time, the fissure between Asot Michael and the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party grew because of Michael’s involvement in the wrongdoings. It was suspected that Prime Minister Browne removed Michael from his ministerial duties because of his involvement in fraud with his own Labour party. He was alleged to make money from many Antigua welfare sectors, including roads, hospitals, sports and many more.
Michael during an interview mentioned, “I was the one who helped the residents of Antigua and Barbuda with my own money. I sold my property and was bankrupted, but still, I did not stop financially supporting the people of my country.” However, these facts were not claimed by any report.
Asot Michael was the one who has been thrown out of a political party for wrongdoing. His involvement in violation of trade laws, focused ABLP to unincluded him.
It is worth noting that in the past, Asot Michael has landed in multiple controversies. Now, he is crossing all the limits of Hypocrisy and is blaming other politicians with a good reputation among the public. A survey conducted by an independent agency declared that Gaston Browne is the foremost choice of the people of Antigua and Barbuda. Surprisingly, this list did not include the name of Asot Michael.
Asot Michael’s Controversy:
In 2018, Michael resigned from his position after a British investor Peter Virdee accused him of being involved in controversies. However, the minister denied his involvement and stated that the original detention was done for the purpose of an interview with the police.
After the resignation, PM Gaston Browne said, Michael has been dealing with a legal issue and will return to the government to make his contribution as soon as he solves it.”
