India: Arunachal Pradesh hosted Tribal Artisan Mela at Abotani Hall on Wednesday. It was organized by Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs and government of India.
The mela was conducted under the theme- “Marketing and Logistics Development for Promoting Tribal Artisan Products from Northeastern Region. The aim of the mela is to strengthen the livelihood opportunities of tribal artisans of Northeastern region.
The primary focus of the Mela is to shed light on the art and craft skills of the tribal people who want to give exposure to the potential business perspective towards enriching the livelihoods of tribal artisans.
The mela featured the showcase of the talents and quality of craftsmanship of the tribal artisans of the regions. The experts in the mela also shed light upon several factors such as how to improve the quality, design, input materials and the kind of training was also given to artisans to make their products marketable at national and international markets at remunerative prices.
Declaring open the mela, there is a lot of large gathering of people in Ziro Festival of Music, Statehood Day, Independence or Republic Day celebrations. The mela witnessed the massive demand for tribal products especially by foreigners and other visitors. The mela has tremendous potential for sale of tribal products which should be organized during such as where significant public gathering takes place.
Around 35 tribal artisans such as individuals artisans and SHG members who have participated at the TAM with their products from Ziro, Sagalee, Yazali, Yachuli, Pistana and Upper Yachuli circles. Of them, 20 artisans were empaneled and 15 selected to undergo further training.
The mela emerged as the perfect platform for the artisans to showcase their talents and promote their local business among the foreigners and other visitors throughout the country.
