Antigua and Barbuda: The Copper and Lumber Store Hotel is a historic hotel located in Nelson’s Dockyard, English Harbour, on the island of Antigua in the Caribbean

The Copper and Lumber Store Hotel took to Facebook and shared some unknown facts about the hotel. It stated that the hotel is housed in a restored 18th-century building that was originally used as a store for copper and lumber. The building was constructed in the 1780s as part of the naval yard established by the British Royal Navy in Antigua.

The yard was used as a base for the Royal Navy’s Caribbean fleet and played a crucial role in the British Empire’s control of the region. The Copper and Lumber Store was used to store essential materials for shipbuilding and maintenance, including copper sheets for hulls and lumber for masts.

After the decline of the Royal Navy in the 19th century, the naval yard was abandoned and the buildings fell into disrepair. In the 1950s, the government of Antigua began a restoration project to preserve historic buildings and promote tourism in the area. The Copper and Lumber Store was converted into a hotel in the 1990s and has since become a popular destination for tourists visiting Antigua.

Today, the Copper and Lumber Store Hotel features 14 guest rooms, The Mainbrace restaurant & bar, and is known for its historic charm and its location in the heart of Nelson’s Dockyard Marina, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Our hotel offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the history of the British naval presence in the Caribbean and the cultural heritage of Antigua.
