Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua and Barbuda Olympian Noah Mascoll Gomes secured victory in Swimmer of the Meet at 2023 Subway AUS Swimming Championships
The Caribbean heat was felt at the 2023 Atlantic University Sports Championships. The fire was brought to the Memorial University pool in Newfoundland , Canada by Antigua and Barbuda Olympian Noah Mascoll-Gomes.Competing in the 25 metre pool he had no equal in his individual events winning four Gold medals for Dalhousie University Tigers. The meet held from February 10-12 saw him sweeping the 50 to 400 scm free events.
In the 50 scm freestyle he took the fastest man at the meet crown title in a time of 22.88, the only swimmer under 23 seconds. It was a personal best and not far off the 2015 programme record of 22.86 by Tony Liew.
The sprint double was completed when he hit the pads in the 100 scm freestyle in a time of 49.68 (split time 23.81). He was the only swimmer under 24 seconds at the 50 metre mark. No other swimmer was under the 51 seconds barrier. He set the school record last year with a swim of 49.50.
The 200 scm freestyle saw him lifting the title in a performance of 1:50.13 (split time 52.65). He was the only sub 1:51 swimmer. He holds the national record at 1:48.42. That along with the 2016 school record of 1:47.63 by Gavin Dyke could be threatened at the U Sports Championships which starts tomorrow.
The sweep was completed when the clock read 4:00.55 (split time 1:56.57). He was the only sub 4:02 swimmer. The national record also belongs to him since 2020 at 3:58.15.
Noah won three Silvers in the relay events . He was the fastest freestyle leg of the meet for all three. In the 400 scm medley relay total time 3:46.78 his split 50.15. For the 800 scm freestyle 7:39.31 he split 1:51.01 . And for the 400 scm freestyle relay he opened the proceedings tying his pb and school record with a swim of 49.50 as the team finished in 3:24.33.
For his standout performance he won Swimmer of the meet award as well as the the U Sport Athlete accolade.
