Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda- Gaston Browne, extended warm wishes and greetings on the occasion of International Youth Day 2022. He delivered a special message to the people of the country and talked about the upliftment of the youth.
He stated that under the theme- Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages, everyone should celebrate the youth of the world. “The youth is our future, so let us continue to create their opportunities today,” said the prime minister.
According to the United Nations, the theme serves to apply the message that action is necessary around all generations to reach the stage where the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be achieved and leave no one behind. The United Nations has always embraced intergenerational solidarity as a catalyst to strengthen their institution, honour those who have served sacrificially and continue best practices that positively impact youth development.
While young people remain the focus and target, it is the conviction that there is an acute need to enhance the full potential of all generations to obtain a successful ecosystem of sustainable development. The 2022 International Youth Day seeks to raise awareness of ageism as a barrier which can impact the wellbeing of both young and old.
It is well documented that young people continue to face age-related barriers in several spheres of their lives which include employment, political participation, health and justice. As they pause to commemorate International Youth Day 2022, the entire world calls for greater advocacy for inter-ministerial collaboration that will promote inter-generational solidarity through policies and services that adopt a life-course approach.
