Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne met with local entrepreneur and Agriculture science educator Elise Phillip in his office on Queen Elizabeth Highway on Friday, July 15, 2022

Phillip had the opportunity to display several locally produced agro-processed foods and products made exclusively by her.

The entrepreneur and teacher explained that her goods are byproducts from fruits, vegetables, and plants found in Antigua. Some of the products showcased to the Prime Minister were breadfruit, pumpkin, and banana flour, local fruit wines, ginger and turmeric powders, hair products, and craft trinkets made from plants.

Prime Minister Browne applauded Phillip for her unique and healthy business concept and encouraged her to expand the operation. PM Browne also advised the entrepreneur to take advantage of funding avenues such as the Entrepreneurial Development Fund Programme (EDP) to further develop her agro-business and assured her of his government’s commitment to assist in any way possible.

Phillip thanked Prime Minister Browne for his support while reiterating the importance of having local agro-processing products in the market.

Phillip’s products are known as “Elunikue” and can be found at Fresh Vine Grocery located on Herberts main road.

Later on the same day, Prime Minister also received the Letter of Credentials from the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Limya Eltayeb.

During the high-level meeting, Prime Minister Browne and Eltayeb spoke at length about The United Nations (UN) common premises located in Antigua on Independence Drive.

The multi-functional building, which opened its doors in March 2022, allows UN agencies to operate in a single location in Antigua. The Common Premises includes the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the UNDP. The Common Premises is the first and only of its kind in the sub-region.
