Antigua and Barbuda: PM Gaston Browne attends 43rd CARICOM meet in Suriname

Prime Minister Gaston Browne joined his other colleagues and travelled to Suriname to attend the 43rd Regular CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting on July 3, 2022. 

Antigua and Barbuda: Prime Minister Gaston Browne joined his other colleagues and travelled to Suriname to attend the 43rd Regular CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting on July 3, 2022. 

He was accompanied by Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister E. P. Chet Greene. 

Before departing for Suriname, Prime Minister outlined the agenda of the three-day meeting and his several activities. He stated that the meeting has a packed agenda as the heads of the governments will discuss COVID-19 and various emerging health issues. In addition to that, the meeting will also comprise the CARICOM Single Market and Economy, Advancing the CARICOM Agri-food systems agenda: Prioritizing Regional Food and Nutrition Security and the issue of Climate Change.

Heads of Governments will discuss topics such as “Advancing the CARICOM Agri-Food systems agenda, Climate Finance, Security issues and updates on Covid-19 and emerging health issues”.

In addition to that, all the CARICOM Heads of Government will also examine the plans for the 50th Anniversary. They will also look out for the strategies for the CARICOM Development Fund’s Second Contribution and subvention cycle. 

Moreover, during Caucus, Heads will also touch on the border and key issues faced by Belize and Guatemala and Guyana and Venezuela. The problems faced by Haiti and the British Virgin Islands will also be discussed in the meeting to take out the relevant solutions to the issues. 

Till now, Various CARICOM Heads such as Prime Minister of Saint Lucia- Philip J Pierre, Prime Minister of Grenada- Dickon Mitchell, and Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago- Dr Keith Rowley, joined the CARICOM Heads of Government Meetings. 

In the absence of the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda- Gaston Browne, Attorney General and Minister for Legal Affairs, Benjamin served as the Prime Minister of the Caribbean country.
