Antigua and Barbuda launches “EU Housing Support to Barbuda Project”, rebuilds 104 homes

Antigua and Barbuda: The Government of Antigua and Barbuda launched the “European Union Housing Support to Barbuda Project” final Handover Ceremony. Under the project, 104 homes were rebuilt and rehabilitated.

About the project: The Housing Support to Barbuda project is funded by the European Union to support the Government of Antigua and Barbuda in the recovery of the island of Barbuda from the impact of Hurricane Irma.

The project implementation partner is the UNDP, who works in close collaboration with the Office of the National Authorizing Officer (ONAO), while the government is the lead agency for this project along with other key national and government partners, including the Ministry of Works and the Barbuda Council.

The Housing project is great financial assistance from the European Union in order to help in building back better. 

Prime Minister Gaston Browne, upon an invitation by the UNDP Resident Representative, Limya Eltayeb will deliver the feature address. In the invitation, the Resident Representative said, “Please accept our sincere gratitude for the continued collaboration and partnership with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda whose leadership was instrumental in facilitating the achievements under the project.” In total 104 homes have been rehabilitated using the “Build Back Better” approach.

Building Back Barbuda Better. This is the underlying scope behind the housing project supported by the EU in collaboration with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and UNDP.

Earlier on Friday, 15th July, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Limya Eltayeb, presented her Letter of Credentials to Prime Minister Gaston Browne.

During the high-level meeting earlier today, Prime Minister Browne and Eltayeb spoke at length about The United Nations (UN) common premises located in Antigua on Independence Drive.
