Antigua and Barbuda issues shelter list after flash flood watch comes into effect

After the flood alert in the Caribbean region, Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services issued a flash flood watch for prone areas. The Services outlined the list of the shelters for the people in order to make them safe during Tropical Storm Fiona. 

Antigua and Barbuda: After the flood alert in the Caribbean region, Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services issued a flash flood watch for prone areas. The Services outlined the list of the shelters for the people in order to make them safe during Tropical Storm Fiona. 

The services asserted that the threat of the flash flood is minor to moderate and has the potential for limited to significant impacts in the watch area. 

They also outlined the speculations of the impacts of the Flash Floods. There could be localized disruption to transportation, displacement among the population, erosion, degradation of the environment, significantly damaged to dams, damage to irrigation and drainage facilities, communication disruption, contamination of the potable water, loss of livestock, the devastation of the infrastructure, temporary stoppage of health services and damage to infrastructure.

The Meteorological Department outlined the list of shelters opened at 2 pm tomorrow by NODS: 

  • All Sants East – Old Road Primary School
  • All Saints West – Seaview Farm Primary, Freemans Village School, Buckley School
  • Barbuda – Sports Complex
  • St. John City East – Church of God of Prophecy, PMS
  • St. John City South – Mary E Pigott School
  • St John city West – Villa Baptist Church (Amy Byers st.), Roman Catholic Church (Gordon st.)
  • St John rural East – Clare Hall Secondary, Bethel Gospel Hall, Living Hope Christian Union
  • St John Rural North – Cedar Grove Primary, Yorks Community Centre
  • St John Rural South – St John Church of Christ, Mary E. Pigott
  • St John rural West – Green-bay Primary, UWI Five Islands
  • St Georges – Pigotts Primary School
  • St Marys North – Zion Church of God (Bengals), Grace Hil Moravian Church (Jennings)
  • St Marys South – Wesleyan Holiness Church (Bolans), Seventh Day Adventist Church (Urlings)
  • St Pauls – Cobbs Cross Primary, Empowerment Centre (Liberta)
  • St Peter – Pentecostal Church (Parham)
