Antigua and Barbuda: Geolyna Dowdye wins gold in 100m at Whitsuntide Games

Phoenix Track Club athlete Geolyna Dowdye secured a gold medal in the girls U20 100m finals of the 2023 Whitsuntide Games, which was held at Grenada.

Antigua and Barbuda: Phoenix Track Club athlete Geolyna Dowdye secured a gold medal in the girls U20 100m finals of the 2023 Whitsuntide Games, which was held at Grenada. 

Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Association took to Facebook and announced results from Day 1 and Day for the athletes competing in Grenada at the 2023 Whitsuntide Games. Running 11.72s to win her prelims, she returns to take the top spot in the finals in 11.79s.

Cleon Joseph of Wings Sports club was also on the medal podium. After taking heat 2 of the boys u17 200m in 22.30s, the smooth sprinter returned to take bronze in the finals in a time of 22.13s.

Janisha Spencer’s 12.74s in the prelims was enough to get her into the u20 finals but out of that automatic top 3 medal spot in the finals. Juda Ashe 23.51 did not advance to the boy’s u17 200m finals. Boys U17 100m – Cleon Joseph and Juda Ashe and Girls U20 200m – Geolyna Dowdye

Along with that, after his bronze medal performance in the 200m on Saturday, Cleon Joseph returned to take Silver in the boy’s 100m u17 category in a time of 10.99s, after clocking 11.08s in the prelims.

 The winner of that event was CARIFTA U17 silver medalist Ethan Sam of Grenada. Joseph finished the meet with two medals in total. Juda Ashe was the other u17 finalist, Ashe finished in 5th position in a time of 11.43s.

In the girls under 20 200m, Geolyna Dowdye maintained her fine form from the day before, clocking 25.15s to win her prelims. She then returned to take the gold in 24.17s. Dowdye was the U17 champion in both the 100m and 200m; she stepped up to the U20 category and the results was just the same. She finished the meet with two gold medals.

Antigua and Barbuda Athletics Associations announced that the country secured four medals, which included two Gold, one Silver and one Bronze

The athletes return home today.
