Antigua and Barbuda creates history: All set to send mother-daughter duo into space

Antigua and Barbuda is all set to send their first astronauts into space and begin their journey on the moon. While creating history, Keisha Schahaff and her daughter Anastasia Mayers will go to space.

Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua and Barbuda is all set to send their first astronauts into space and begin their journey on the moon. While creating history, Keisha Schahaff and her daughter Anastasia Mayers will go to space. 

The mother-daughter duo become the first Caribbean pair who will embark on a space travel journey. 

Keisha Schahaff is forty-six years, and her daughter is aged eighteen-year-old. They both will board the Galactic 02 spaceflight from Spaceport America, New Mexico, on August 10, 2023. It will also mark the first private astronaut spaceflight and the second commercial spaceflight of Virgin Galactic. 

Antigua and Barbuda will also host two public watch parties to make the entire nation to be part of the celebrations. It will serve as an inspirational movement for the Caribbean and beyond. 

CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin C. James, also lauded the ladies and said that the entire nation is proud of their remarkable journey to space. 

He said that the excitement had reached the level that it felt as if the whole of Antigua and Barbuda will be going to space with the ladies. The country cannot wait for August 10 and will be out with their flags to cheer the ladies on. 

The watch party will be attended by special guests such as Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda Gaston Browne. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Galactic, and Christopher Huie, a Jamaican-American, who earlier this year became the 19th Black astronaut, family of the Antigua and Barbuda astronauts as well as Government officials and dignitaries, will also attend the party. 

The party will be taken place at the Antigua Recreation Ground and in Barbuda, at the Holy Trinity Primary School. Venues will open at 9:00 a.m. with launch time shortly after 10:00 a.m.

In addition to being part of the countdown and witnessing the exciting launch of the Galactic 02 spaceflight from Spaceport America, New Mexico, live on screens in Antigua and Barbuda. The watch party will also feature entertainment and activities in celebration of the occasion.
