US: Organizers of the new President’s inauguration said that Actor Tom Hanks would host a primetime television special on Jan. 20 to celebrate Joe Biden’s inauguration as the new US president.

According to a statement from Biden’s, the 90-minute ‘Celebrating America’ special will feature appearances by celebrities including Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, and Ant Clemons inaugural committee.

Democrats Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in earlier in the day as president and vice president and will deliver remarks.

Biden`s committee has scaled back the usual inaugural events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, canceling the traditional parade and inaugural balls normally held in Washington.

The television special “will showcase the American people`s resilience, heroism, and a unified commitment to coming together being a nation to heal and rebuild,” the inaugural committee said.

The program will be broadcast on television networks CBS, ABC, CNN, NBC, and MSNBC, and streamed on YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and other online platforms.

The broadcast — organized by the Presidential Inaugural Committee — will substitute the usual festivities at the swearing-in ceremony, dropped this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aretha Franklin sang in Barack Obama’s first inauguration in 2009, while Beyonce performed at his second four years later.

Trump had to settle for less well-known artists in 2017 due to his unpopularity in the entertainment world. Country singer Toby Keith headlined the event.

It will pay tribute to “American heroes,” including workers on the frontlines fighting against COVID-19.

Demi Lovato tweeted, “I’m SO honored to announce that I will be joining @JoeBiden& @KamalaHarris for their particular event, “Celebrating America,” on January 20th at 8:30 pm ET/PT I was left speechless when I was asked to show! Tune in with various tv networks & live streaming services .”
