A day in life of Kamina Johnson Smith during her visit to Geneva for MC12

Jamaica: Kamina Johnson Smith- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica, who is currently on her tour to Geneva for the 12^th Ministerial Conference, has shared the activities and meetings of the one day of her life.

Through her social media, she outlined multiple diplomatic meetings with different personalities and also promoted herself as a perfect candidate for the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

Firstly, on June 14, 2022, Kamina Smith met with the newly appointed Minister of Trade and Tourism of Australia and Vice-Chair of MC12, Senator Don Farrell.

Min. Farrell and she recalled the longstanding friendship between our countries and the various areas of cooperation, particularly in sports. Smith commended the Government of Australia for their work to mitigate the effects of climate change, including coral reef regeneration. She looks forward to furthering her engagement with Min. Farrell.

Secondly, Kamina Johnson Smith added,” It was an honor to be asked by the DG and the GC Chair H.E. Didier Cham Bovey, to facilitate discussions on WTO reforms. Working with Members to exercise pragmatism and flexibility in laying a path for work post MC12.”

Kamina Johnson Smith also attended the meeting with her Singaporean counterpart, Gan Kim Yong – Minister of Trade and Industry of Singapore within the margins of the 12th WTO Ministerial Conference MC12 currently underway in Geneva, Switzerland.

During their exchange, Yong and she highlighted the longstanding bilateral relations between Jamaica and Singapore. They further discussed areas for continued cooperation including logistics, trade facilitation, and digitalization. She also used the opportunity to share her priorities for a re-invigorated Commonwealth if elected as Secretary-General.

Outlining her meetings last evening that is on June 13, 2022, Kamina Johnson Smith exclaimed,” I had the pleasure of engaging with representatives of Commonwealth countries at a reception on the margins of MC12 of the WTO in Geneva.”

She said that the Commonwealth family is rooted in the fundamental pillars of stability and the shared principles of democracy and good governance. Their worldwide breadth and diversity speak to the reach and potential power of the Commonwealth.

Kamina Smith asserted,” In my candidature statement, I have shared my priority areas should I be chosen to serve as Secretary-General of the Commonwealth: expanding trade among Commonwealth members; climate change; sustainable financing for development; the empowerment of youth and women; and digitalization.”

She stated that she is committed to working diligently and respectfully to carry out the directives and mandates of member states on their most pressing needs.
