8-year-old abducted & raped on way to Church

An eight-year-old girl from St Thomas was ostensibly kidnapped and raped by a man on Saturday. As per the reports, the eight-year-old was marching to church with her cousin along a clay road in the parish when they were jumped on by the attacker.

The man then ordered them to come into bushes, after that the man tied the hands of the cousin and overpowered the eight-year-old girl to remove her clothes in front of him and continued to perform depraved sexual acts with the girl.

A report was done to the police, and the Doctors examined the eight-year-old. The accused was succeeding arrested and was taken into the custody. The Morant Bay police is currently taking out the investigation.

The Child sexual assault has already been a source of significant concern among the national security of Jamaica and child welfare organisations, particularly since COVID-19 constraints shut off readily available outlets for reporting crimes and the warning of questionable behaviour.

According to the statistics provided by the multiagency child sex abuse investigative team of Jamaica, more than around 3,265 children were sexually abused between the months of January 2020 and March 2021.

But even not counting the COVID-19 pandemic, child sex abuse is believed to be historically under-reported.

Jamaica rape rate was at the level of 21.3 cases per 100,000 population in the year 2015, down from 25.3 cases per 100,000 population past year; this is a change of 15.52 per cent.

As per the statistics, three of the top ten recorded rape rates in the world happen in the Caribbean Region. While globally average for rape was 15 per 100,000, The Bahamas had an average rate of 133, St. Vincent and the Grenadines – 112, Jamaica – 51, Dominica – 34, Barbados – 25 and Trinidad and Tobago – 18.
